Keymia is a woman of many talents. Keymia serves as an impressive example for aspiring models everywhere, and she wears her title with pride.
Growing up feeling akward due to her thin frame and dark complextion, Keymia had some difficulty becoming comfortable in her own skin. Modeling wasn't even something she considered until she was approached by a scout in 1999 about making it a career. Keymia put the thought on the back burner, but it wasn't until she enrolled at NC State University in 2001 that she decided to try her hand at the trade. She became a member of the college's modeling troupe, which (believe it or not) opened many doors for her and helped her to truly become comfortable with who she was. Her very first professional job was among celebrities such as DL Hughley and Mike Epps. She later went on to become a model choreographer and appear in several shows along the East Coast. In 2006, she was a finalist in the NC Top Model Competition and was also offered a contract with The House of Monee, a couture clothing line in New York.
Keymia has truly made her mark in the NC market, appearing in over 30 shows (including Strut/RFW), and numerous print works. She hopes to make her mark on the Victoria Secret runway, taking over where Tyra Banks left off. Until then, she does a lot of work behind the scenes, directing fashion shows, providing model training, and promoting other models.
Tyra Banks once said, "A smart model is a good model", and Keymia is destined to prove this in every way. She was Top 10 in the county in academics throughout grade school, was Academically Gifted, was involved in many activities in school (academic, athletic, and social), served as a student mentor, attended Spelman College in high school for early college credits, and graduated from high school with a 4.0 GPA from one of the top high schools in the nation. She later obtained a BA degree in Communications from NC State University (where her passion for modeling began) and an MBA in Project Management from Colorado Technical University.
But her smarts go far beyond academics. Keymia was able to apply what she knew from school to life. She used her PR skills to start K. Ventures, working with Ronnie Soul (the Original Promoter of Def Jam), Budweiser, and various record labels and recording artists. She has branched out on her ventures since moving to Charlotte in 2008, creating a jewlery line named after her mother, The Karen Collection The Karen Lee Collection. The business savvy beauty is also in the process of opening her own modeling agency to provide young ladies in NC the opportunities that they are usually overlooked for in the underrepresented market.
